Father's Day Up!

For father's day I took Dad to see Up in 3D and here is just some of the hilarity that ensued in some fantastic script writing;

Russell: Sit boy.
[Dug sits]
Russell: Hey look, he's trained! Shake.
[Dug shakes his paw]
Russell: Uh-huh. Speak.
Dug: Hi there.
Russell, Carl Fredricksen: [surprised exclamations]
Carl Fredricksen: Did that dog just say "Hi there"?
Dug: Oh yes.
Carl Fredricksen: Whaa!
Dug: My name is Dug. I have just met you, and I love you.
[he jumps up on Carl]
Carl Fredricksen: Wha...
Dug: My master made me this collar. He is a good and smart master and he made me this collar so that I may speak. Squirrel!
[looks to distance for a few seconds]
Dug: My master is good and smart.
Carl Fredricksen: It's not possible!
Dug: Oh it is because my master is smart!

I will sing praise

I will sing praise, I will lift my voice,
I will sing praise, I’ve made my choice.
I will sing praise in all I do.
I will sing praise to you.

No matter the storms that come my way,
No matter the trials I may face,
You promised that you would see me through.
So, I will trust in You.

I will sing praise, I will lift my voice,
I will sing praise, I’ve made my choice.
I will sing praise in all I do.
I will sing praise to you.

No matter the storms that come my way,
No matter the trials I may face,
You promised that you would see me through.
So, I will trust in you.
I will trust in you.

I will sing praise, I will lift my voice.
I will sing praise, I’ve made my choice.
I will sing praise in all I do.
I will sing praise to you.

I will sing praise to you.
I will sing praise to you.

Are you serving the Father?

Must we be kind to the poor?
Must we help the homeless and give of ourselves to others?
Will it impact the kingdom of God?
Is being saved not enough?
Do we really need to serve others?

YES, ONE THOUSAND TIMES YES!!!

Read the following scripture and tell me if you think you'll be rewarded in heaven just because you gave your heart to Jesus without serving His people and His purpose.

The Sheep and the Goats

"When he finally arrives, blazing in beauty and all his angels with him, the Son of Man will take his place on his glorious throne. Then all the nations will be arranged before him and he will sort the people out, much as a shepherd sorts out sheep and goats, putting sheep to his right and goats to his left.

"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Enter, you who are blessed by my Father! Take what's coming to you in this kingdom. It's been ready for you since the world's foundation. And here's why:

I was hungry and you fed me,
I was thirsty and you gave me a drink,
I was homeless and you gave me a room,
I was shivering and you gave me clothes,
I was sick and you stopped to visit,
I was in prison and you came to me.'

"Then those 'sheep' are going to say, 'Master, what are you talking about? When did we ever see you hungry and feed you, thirsty and give you a drink? And when did we ever see you sick or in prison and come to you?' Then the King will say, 'I'm telling the solemn truth: Whenever you did one of these things to someone overlooked or ignored, that was me—you did it to me.'

"Then he will turn to the 'goats,' the ones on his left, and say, 'Get out, worthless goats! You're good for nothing but the fires of hell. And why? Because—

I was hungry and you gave me no meal,
I was thirsty and you gave me no drink,
I was homeless and you gave me no bed,
I was shivering and you gave me no clothes,
Sick and in prison, and you never visited.'

"Then those 'goats' are going to say, 'Master, what are you talking about? When did we ever see you hungry or thirsty or homeless or shivering or sick or in prison and didn't help?'

"He will answer them, 'I'm telling the solemn truth: Whenever you failed to do one of these things to someone who was being overlooked or ignored, that was me—you failed to do it to me.'

"Then those 'goats' will be herded to their eternal doom, but the 'sheep' to their eternal reward."
Matthew 25:31-46

I am, therefore I think...

Q:
“Why do vegetarians propose a different set of rules for non-human animals? After all, humans are animals too. Why is it all right for a lion to kill and eat an antelope when it isn’t for a human? Some people answer that ‘We do not need to eat meat,’ but why does that matter?”

A:
Alexander George: That we don’t need to eat meat matters because it means that the harm that we cause to animals by eating them (depriving them of their lives and usually subjecting them to torturous treatment) is something we could avoid. We are, after all, responsible for the avoidable harm that we cause.
And what about the animals? Are they excused their eating of other animals because they can’t help it? That strikes me as an odd thing to say. Animals can’t be held morally accountable; they simply aren’t’ the kinds of creatures that can be morally blamed for what they do. (Which doesn’t mean that we can’t be held accountable for what we do to them.) So, it’s weird to talk about their being exculpated by the fact that, say, they are carnivores. Non-human animals simply aren’t in need of exculpation: they aren’t the kinds of creatures that can be blamed or praised in the first place.

A:
Peter Lipton: Animals are not morally accountable: they cannot be morally blameworthy (or praiseworthy). What is harder to explain is why we don’t have a responsibility to prevent animals from hurting each other. This is an unnatural thought, yet perhaps technically we would have this responsibility, if we could also find an alternative diet for the natural carnivores. But given our own awful treatment of animals, we should perhaps concentrate on getting our own act together first.

God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground."

awdl tua mam-gu

In honour of Grandma
by Letitia Rowe

I remember when I was seven,
I met you in the north,
I hadn’t known what to expect,
I’d spoken to you on the phone,
I loved my Christmas Bear but…
How do you love someone you’ve never met?

You played Grandma very well,
I guess you’d had some practice,
It’s the little things I remember,
The way you seemed to be looking out for me,
And then we went back home and I guess…
I can love you, now we’ve met

Many year have passed and I’ve learnt so much,
I never really knew you but I heard a bit,
Once or twice I thought I couldn’t like you,
And now you're gone, I don't no where but...
I know I love you

What's in a name?

God calls you by name and there is reason and meaning behind your name.

"As for me, this is my covenant with you: You will be the father of many nations. No longer will you be called Abram ; your name will be Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations. I will make you very fruitful; I will make nations of you, and kings will come from you."

Genesis 17:4-6

Abram: means exalted father
Abraham: means father of many

After the death of Moses the servant of the LORD, the LORD said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses' aide:I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses. Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the great river, the Euphrates—all the Hittite country—to the Great Sea on the west. No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. "Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them—to the Israelites.
"Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their forefathers to give them. Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go."
Joshua 1:1-9

Joshua: means God is Salvation

But Ruth replied, "Don't urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the LORD deal with me, be it ever so severely, if anything but death separates you and me."
Ruth 1:16-17

Ruth: means Friendship
